Primer on Natural Dyes for School Children

This booklet takes children to the grand and vivid world of Nature’s colours and shows that these colours are endemic in all living and non-things – plants, trees, foods, animals, birds, insects, soil, mountains and rocks, the seas and indeed man himself. It tells them the ways the colours are extracted from natural colourantsand used to make dyes and how these dyes become vehicles of colouring fabrics, food, paintings and so many other things. It also highlights that in our country, the use of natural dyes is reaching new heights as designers as well as buyers are making a big shift to sustainable fashion. The promotion of traditional methods of processing dyes will also reinstate the dyer artisans and the farmers who shall be growing crops of dye yielding plants in future in a big way.
