Consultation to Propose Indicators for Climate Change-related SDGs and UNFCCC Bonn Debrief

A half-day Consultation to modify and propose indicators for four climate change-related Sustainable Development Goals was organized followed by a debrief on the Bonn meetings of the United Nations to bring together the SDGs and the United Nations Framework on Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) processes. The discussion focused on sustainable development goals 7, 12, 13 and 15.

The meeting was attended by researchers and representatives of NGOs working in the field of climate change. It was chaired by Dr. Sachin Chaturvedi, Director General, Research and Information System for Developing Countries. The meeting discussed the goals, their targets and indicators in relation to the issues of developing nations like India. Various important recommendations were made by the participants.

The discussion covered issues like regional cooperation in management of shared natural resources, sustainable accessibility, affordability and reliability of SDG goals, enabling policy and technological environment for domestic low-carbon growth, disaster mitigation and adaptation, introduction of baseline for restoration of land resources, forest conservation and to measure annual percent changes in types of forest cover and protected areas.
